Volunteer for the 2021 US Open at Torrey Pines

One of many of our privileges as host club for Torrey Pines is our opportunity to have priority volunteer assignments for Torrey Pines US Opens. For the upcoming 2021 US Open our club has been assigned marshal duties for 3 holes requiring support of 250 club volunteers. Among the holes for which we have marshal duties are the best holes on the course, #1, the first hole and #18, the finishing hole.

UPDATE: Our club was assigned to these holes, but because of limited attendance due to COVID, things have changed.  Most TPMGC volunteers were informed by the USGA that they would not be needed for the US Open.  If this changes, volunteers will be notified directly by the USGA.

Along with great opportunities, comes disadvantages. Each year our club loses access to our home courses for 2 weeks during the hosting of the Farmers Open and next year we will lose many weeks tournament access due to the US Open. (Details of the 2021 US Open can be found here: US Open Website)

In February 2021, construction began on a US Open practice range which took the first tee and 18th green on North out of play. Next, a short game area will be created on and around the 9th green. As the Open gets closer, a massive merchandise tent will be constructed on the 10th fairway (depending upon the number of spectators). Until about September, the North course will not be the 18-hole experience we are accustomed to. It will be open for limited play and then completely shut down for a couple of months before and after the US Open.
